How high should your iq be in order for you play chess without a board and pieces?

I was watching scorpion season 1 and this genius kid named Ralph was playing chess with salt and pepper bottles on a diners table with no chessboard. I know that is fantasy, yet in principle how high would a person''s iq have to be to pull off that level of abstraction?

    There is no proven connection between IQ and ability at chess.

    With enough practice, most people can play chess without sight of the board and pieces. Maybe not necessarily very well, but it's possible.

    The table top was checkered design in that show, so he did have a chess board. Normal IQ can do it. Good luck winning against someone with a high IQ.

    This isn't an "abstraction."

    I've played chess with beer bottles and battleship with shot glasses and two pizza boxes.

    As for people who do play without chess boards, this isn't so much intelligence as a good memory.
