Seriously, Yahoo? Since when is the word 'n*egro,' a Spanish word for the color black, considered censorable language?!?
Lili--I am perfectly well educated; thank you. I was simply raising an objection because the Spanish word for 'black' is not and never has been pejorative, as far as I am aware. The misspelling and mispronunciation of the Spanish word for 'black' is what has indeed been used by older white Americans in a pejorative sense. That same mispronounced and misspelled Spanish word is used among black people to mean the equivalent of 'dude.'

On Yahoo Answers it's always been censorable. Most Americans use the word in a negative or degrading way.

Its Spanish history is irrelevant to the modern issues surrounding the word. As a historian, I can only urge you to go back to school.
