Can the Judge Advocate General on a US naval ship sign/authorize a subpoena? (writer question)?

    No. JAG officers are attorneys, they are not judges. Military judges are generally JAG officers, but judges are not assigned to ship duty.

    Additionally, military courts are courts of limited jurisdiction, so even a military judge is limited in his authority to issue subpoena's other than in cases under UCMJ.

    Ask a JAG attorney and you'll find out. Wow! This is not a JAG website and none of us are with the Navy's JAG corp.
