Why do people keep advising those with breast problems or suspected breast cancer to see a gynecologist?

Update:

A gynecologist deals with female genitals and reproductive health.

While hormonal changes can affect the breasts they are not the primary area of study for a gynecologist. (At least in my country)

I was treated for stage 3 breast cancer and a gynecologist 2as never a part of my medical team.

Update 2:

Sorry, typo, *was never part of my medical team.

Also, as with any specialist here, one needs a referal from a gp to see a gyno. This isn't where a gp would refer someone with suspected breast cancer.

I haven't seen that. Most people tell them to see their family doctor. They can order the tests and then if it turns out to be cancer they get a referral to an oncologist.

Gynecologists DO study the breasts, which are part of the female reproductive system. They are the ones who do clinical breast exams as well as provide other kinds of care. And, at least here in the States, they can make referrals to other specialists ( including oncologists) when this is necessary.
