Actually, it has to more with generational changes. Starting with Gen Y and going younger...they just aren't as interested in the same sports than the older generations.

Being an Avant Garde kinda guy, I gave up on the NFL, and professional sports in general at least 25 years ago. When all the end zone theatrics started, the massive salary demands, Super Bowls that are more pageant than football, and the ignorant antics of pro athletes off the field. The drugs, the fights, the guns, the wife and GF beatings, all drove me away.
It's not hard as I have not had a TV in 10 years and 11 days to be exact.
