Why did the Romans engage in so much debauchery?
Such as eating until they were sick and regularly participating in orgies.

eating until they were sick is probably an urban myth. No more than people do that today. There was a story about Caesar talking of him retiring to his quarters to vomit, and they had a thing called a vomitorium, which was not for vomiting in, it was a type of stadium where visitors could 'spew' out of one open end of it when finished. From these things there was an invention of Romans going to a special room to vomit.
Caesar probably had a neurological disorder or vertigo.

Certain of those 'debaucheries' were essential God-calming-acts.

Learn some fvcking history instead of myths. They didn’t to the first, and not that often to the second. Myths made up by Christians to make them look bad in their up yourself world.

No wonder their civilisation collapsed.
Cultural degeneracy is almost always part of the prologue of civilisational downfall.

Vehement advocate of human advancement, as well as continuity of desirable human and societal attributes (will viciously oppose anyone or anything threatening these, without exception). - Anonymous2 years ago
Orgy does not mean what you think it means.
