Police scanners;?

Before TV went digital I used to tune in TV audio on my scanner. I now have a digital scanner ( BC396XLT). Is it possible to tune in TV audio from a digital channel on my scanner?

No it isn't possible with your Bearcat Scanner. When the television Broadcasting went to all digital, it became a non-compatible format for most scanners. While you program the scanner channels with a digital keypad the receiver is only set up for analogue communications. That is also why cellphones also can not be listened to on a scanner anymore. The actual transmissions for tv, cellphones and others have changed to a digital format of broadcasting. Many larger and some smaller cities and towns and even states have gone to digital transmitting/receiving to curtail or eliminate the public from listening in on their communications.

But not a total loss, Bearcat and others have come out with digital receivers for the serious hobbyist. Unfortunately none will work for the frequencies used by tv stations. Most of the digital communications are in the 700 to 800 mhz range which is what the digital scanners are setup for, the tv stations are basically still using there original frequencies. Bearcat scanners that the model number starts with BC396 or BC125 are non-digital and those that start with a prefix of BCD are digital scanners. the D is the difference.
