yes, Ive done that before, but it has to be used while playing a gamecube game, not a wii game.

Assuming you have an ORIGINAL Wii (RVL-001) & launched the desired Gamecube game, you can completely play the game with a wireless Gamecube controller like the Wavebird controller (with it's own receiver connected to the Gamecube port).

Please be aware that all non-Gamecube components (like the WiFi card, Bluetooth card, Internal storage, ect.) are disabled while in Gamecube mode, so you won't be able to use Classic Console controller (as that requires a Wiimote & a Bluetooth connection, which is disabled). You will need to manually turn off the Wii to exit Gamecube mode (& restore all Wii components).

Wavebird controllers work fine on the Wii. Any controller that is made for the GameCube should work more for the most part.

All of the Wii features are turned off when it's in GameCube mode, so things like Bluetooth and Wi-Fi won't work and neither will those kinds of controllers. Basically, if you can't plug it into a GameCube and use it, you won't be able to plug it into a Wii when it's in GameCube mode either.

If it can work with a real GameCube it will work with the Wii (like the Wavebird with the adapter that plugs into a port).

If it's a native Bluetooth controller designed to connect to a PC, Nintendo Switch, or mobile devices, then it cannot be used with a Wii.
