President Ronald Reagan didn't sell, but gave, state-of-the-art jets to Saudi Arabia. Most of the 911 terrorists were Saudi, and perhaps highly connected to Arab leadership (who benefitted from the weapons). Reagan and Vice president (and future president) G. H. W. Bush were also in the Iran-Contra scandal which traded counterfeit US currency, narcotics (sold on the streets of Los Angeles, as Maxine Waters objected), and guns (made to look Russian) to keep the Contra dictatorship in Honduras, and prop up the Iranian dictatorship. The link below shows that Lockheed (with the blessing of the Trump administration and Republican controlled Congress) is selling state-of-the-art stealth bombers to South Korea, and remember that north and south Korea made peaceful settlements lately. In their defense, China just announced a new type of radar that could detect the stealth bombers. So, those bombers are declassified old news. ANSWER: It is never a good idea to sell weapons.
