Why does Cuba get so many Russian tourists ?

Russia is a country that’s far away I would assume it’s an expensive flight across the country to a small island that’s relatively poor not as poor as some other countries in Latin America but still not a country that you should want to visit

I find this question at a late date. Russians travel to the seaside. Thailand. UAE. Turkey. Greece. Cyprus. Egypt. Some to Tunis and Morocco. I have friends in Russia go to Dominican Republic and Cuba. The man who went to Cuba said it was wonderful... socialism everywhere. That was after about 25 years of "capitalism" in Russia today. But we still have socialism to a degree in Russia.

Due to its long-standing relationship with the USSR and now Russia, Cuba has been a vacation destination (along with the island of Cypress) for Russians for decades.
