    There's probably been several already.

It'll be a while before we have an open atheist as president though.

Do you lack basic education there have already been atheist Presidents!!!!!!!!!!!

The government of the United States of America is, in no sense, founded on the Christian religion. Treaty of Tripoli, Article 11. Ratified unanimously by the senate and signed by founding father and second president, John Adams, in 1797.

"Christianity is not my religion." - A. Lincoln “The Bible is not my book nor Christianity my profession”. - Abraham Lincoln

"Christianity is the most perverted system that ever shone on man." Thomas Jefferson

“Of all the animosities which have existed among mankind, those which are caused by a difference of sentiments in religion appear to be the most inveterate and distressing, and ought most to be deprecated”. George Washington

“I have examined all the known superstitions of the world, and I do not find in our particular superstition of Christianity one redeeming feature. They are all alike founded on fables and mythology”. - Thomas Jefferson

“During almost fifteen centuries has the legal establishment of Christianity been on trial. What has been its fruits? More or less, in all places, pride and indolence in the clergy; ignorance and servility in the laity; in both, superstition, bigotry and persecution." - James Madison

“The purpose of separation of church and state is to keep forever from these shores the ceaseless strife that has soaked the soil of Europe with blood for centuries”. - James Madison

“I do not believe in the divinity of Christ, and there are many other of the postulates of the orthodox creed to which I cannot subscribe” - William Howard Taft

“The divinity of Jesus is made a convenient cover for absurdity. Nowhere in the Gospels do we find a precept for Creeds, Confessions, Oaths, Doctrines, and whole carloads of other foolish trumpery that we find in Christianity”. - John Adams

"This would be the best of all possible worlds, if there were no religion in it." - John Adams "The divinity of Jesus is made a convenient cover for absurdity." - John Adams

I think there have been several, already.

And one weak-minded one, in the office, right now.

    Certainly.

In fact, I suspect we've had at least one already.

It's just that, at the time it would have been political suicide to acknowledge it publicly.
