Would you visit your elderly grandparents who live overseas during the COVID pandemic? ?

Gypsyfish is right.  You would pose a potential threat to your grandparents, because you could be an asymptomatic Covid carrier.  Its best to get some help to see them on Zoom, or something similar.  

Airplanes are not the biggest problem. They have good air filtration- although that's a long flight to wear a mask on. The problem is that if you're coming from the US or Britain, you post the biggest threat to your grandparents. I know-  you're sure you're not carrying COVD. But you can't really be sure. And most countries aren't letting people in from other countries. 

No.  You could pick up Covid on the plane or in an airport  and not even have symptoms (but still give it to them.) 

Things are changing very rapidly at the moment, travel restrictions are getting stricter, and there is no point in trying to organise a non-emergency visit at present.

There is no way of risk-free travel at this time, and you would presumably not want to risk your grandparents' health by taking an illness to them. 

I wouldn't be allowed to enter Qatar because I don't carry a Qatari passport and currently only those with Qatari passports are allowed to enter Qatar.

The ride on the plane is a minor concern.

DESTINATION place decides which door you exit the Airport.

Airlines are not the Border control or health authority of any country.

Be HONEST when back home you will mix with other friends family and the nearby shopping places. There is no guaranteed 100% safe way to do it.

Now comes the plane ride home and your most likely expected an additional week or two self isolating in home state. ONLY YOU know if you will follow the rules.

If you must you will. Travel well prepared with your own supplies of masks hand sanitizer etc. Have your home base set up for your return.

It is not recommended at this time and most countries have closed to only ESSENTIAL travel. Booking a flight is not an entry ticket.

Recent news, reports another new strain of Covid in the middle east hitting the UAE very hard this week. They were doing very good a few weeks ago.

No. I won't even travel across my own country to see my elderly parents. And leaving your own country these days can mean unexpectedly being unable to return when you planned to, after they change a regulation while you're out of the country.

Since the beginning of Oct 2019 and today, myself, close family, and friends we have lost 12 people.  Only one of them is related to covid (Dec 2020).  The most recent was a man in his early 70, very physically mentally fit, was diagnosed with cancer about Dec 12th and died Jan 14th.

The week after Thanksgiving a man was shot execution style due to a road rage incident in my city.

The concept of "there will be next year" is hopefully true but we don't have crystal balls.

I feel like you can travel safely too.  We know how covid transmits (almost exclusively person to person direct contact).  There has been ZERO cases of covid transmission related to airplanes. 

- I'd up the mask game - a KN95 mask, N95 mask, have a 2nd mask, and a faceshield

- you are supposed to make sure the seat vents are open to import the airflow in your portion of the plane. 

NO, and most countries have a travel ban.
