Has anyone claimed the billion dollar lottery? What happens if the person lost the ticket?

    If the person who lost the ticket can prove he purchased it, he will receive the jackpot. That would probably require a security camera video showing the person buying it at the time it was purchased.

    If no one has claimed the jackpot after a year, the money is given to the treasury in the state where the ticket was purchased, in this case Michigan.

    Not as of four hours ago, according to a NY Times article which took me about 3 seconds to find by googling. If you lose a ticket, you don't win anything. There are almost no ways at all to prove you bought a ticket if you don't have the ticket.
