Can somebody link a good HDMI sound extractor?

"Surround sound" is digitally encoded in any one of several formats, depending on the source - AC3, DTS or various HD versions now that have higher bit rates and qualities.

It's very different to basic stereo over digital / optical links, which has a fixed format and can be converted to analog easily.

The only guaranteed way to convert HDMI digital audio to discrete 5.1 analog is by using a home theatre amp that has HDMI inputs and a multi-format surround decoder, or a stand-alone surround decoder.

Those exist but they are not common and you may well be able to get a secondhand home theatre amp somewhat cheaper..

Go to Amazon and search HDMI sound splitter (or extractor) and find one that fits your needs with decent reviews. There are many many different options, so I'm sure you'll find one.
