Just purchased a used 2009 Mazda rx-8 sport, any advice on maintaining it as a daily with long drives?

Brave man but well done buying something interesting cabs exciting rather than a boring Corolla or Camry.

Get a service manual and a dealer level scanner.  You will need it and a fat wallet.  The RX-8 have made many mechanics very happy.  Good luck.

Yes, park it in a garage and get a Honda Civic for a commuting beater and enjoy your RX on your days off. It's NOT  a good daily driver and chances are that it has been abused by the previous owner. Second-hand sports cars usually are so you can expect a lot of problems..

Wrong choice for a daily. I want a rotary too, but as a project race car. You have to put oil in every time you fill up gasoline in the gas tank. You have to put some inside the engine once in a while since they waste so much. You also have to redline it each time you turn the car on in order to clean the apex seals. They do really poorly on gas too.
