2 stroke oil ?
I confess to being an absolute ignoramus regarding things that run on petrol so, what exactly is “2 stroke” oil and what is it used for?

2-stroke oil is for 2-stroke engines - generally smaller engines like chainsaws, leaf blowers, and smaller displacement motorcycles.
Sometimes there is a separate tank for the 2-stroke oil to go into, and the engine has a way to mix it, and in other cases you simply mix them together in a gas can, give it a couple good shakes, and fill the fuel tank with the mixed gas/oil.
The advantage of a 2-stroke motor is that every other stroke is a power stroke (as opposed to a 4-stroke that has to go through intake, compression, ignition, and exhaust stroke).
The down-side is the exhaust, since you are burning the oil along with the gas.

The difference is in the fuel intake into the engines. Two stroke fuel AND oil goes through the crankcase and lubricates the engine bearings and then goes into the combustion camber to be burned for power. Four stroke engine oil stays in the crankcase and isn't burned along with the fuel. You can substitute regular 4 cycle engine oil for two cycle, but the two cycle engine oil has chemicals mixed in to make the two cycle engine run much cleaner.

"2 stroke oil" is mixed in various ratios with gasoline to be used in a two cycle engine. Go on line and ask: How does a two cycle engine operate.

any engine that sounds like a chain saw, or small outboard boat motor. So some lawnmowers have it, gas weed eaters are, many small cc motorcycle engines are as they puff out a blue smoke. The oil is mixed with the gas to lubricate the motor...as there is no oil pan.

2 stroke oil is a special oil made to be mixed with the gasoline for your 2 stroke motor.

It’s called “2 stroke” because you have to give your car , two strokes ( and whisper nice things) when you top up.

2 stroke engines need fuel that is a mixture of gasoline and oil. That both powers the engine and lubricates it. It is a particular oil that does this best. You can use regular motor oil in a pinch, but 2-stroke oil is best. If you don't know what a 2 stroke engine is, google it.

Two-stroke oil is lighter than 4-stroke oil, and has additives to help with combustion. Two-stroke engines require the oil to be mixed with the petrol because the crankcase is exposed to the fuel and air mixture.
Some examples of things that have two-stroke engines are string trimmers, chainsaws, and even some motorcycles. Two-stroke diesel engines used to be fairly popular (production ended in 1998), but they operate differently from simple two-stroke engines, and don't require a mixture of fuel and oil.

It is mixed with gas to lubricate 2 stroke engines. Versus 4 stroke engines which are lubricated by the oil which is pumped out of the crank case. Post a question about the difference between a 2 stroke & 4 stroke engine & I will answer that as well.
