Open the task manager and see what process are running, how much memory each is taking, and what the CPU is most busy on.

If there are process that you do not recognize, search their name on google and see if they are sub-process of the OS or of one of your currently running programs. If they are not legitimate, you may have some background spyware or malware running which you would have to remove.

If you have massive data from uncleared past browsing activities, that would also slow down your computer.
