What areas in LA should I avoid?

Question

I grew up in a safe city in the east Bay Area. I’ve lived in Orange County for a while in Irvine, but also in Costa Mesa and Santa Ana for a bit which arent great neighborhoods. I’m gonna be moving to LA closer to my university so I wanted to know which areas to avoid and etc. What do you think of these places?
Culver City
Mid Wilshire
Encino
North ridge 
Dtla (ik this ones risky)
West Hollywood 
Any recs would be good

Downtown is bad the valley is not as bad but should also be avoided.

Glendale, north Hollywood, and nowadays Burbank. Too many Armenians.

The Mid-Wilshire area you mentioned is "just down the street" from Westwood Blvd & UCLA. You can even take the MTA 720 bus to there. I happened to live in East LA and most of it is not as dangerous as MacArthur park (Westlake) or south central. I also used to work near Wilshire & Crescent Heights Ave. In the 1980s.

Based on the cities, you are asking about, we can assume you go to UCLA...
Northridge is way out there.  It's probably "closer" to UCLA than Irvine but it's still over an hour commute

Recommendations are based on where you really are going to school, what's your budget, desired living situation (roommates or alone) and what's your desired commute.

i lived in Glendale for a few months.  It is a solid middle class city.  The only places I was told to stay away from were East LA and MacArthur Park.
