Question about soundbars?

I have a 50 in LG smart TV and I want to buy a soundbar to go with it.  I just wanted to know, do soundbars generally plug into the TV via HDMI or do they connect wirelessly? I'm not an expert so if you could give a layman's answer that would be appreciated please lol!

Most have rca jacks, optical jack, and or bluetooth and some use HDMI

Your tv likely has at least three of these options and may have them all.

Most sound bars work through the ARC HDMI port, which would be compatible with 99% of the TV's out there sold within the last 8 years.    Otherwise in some cases you might have the option of hooking it up with an optical cable or wireless bluetooth connection depending on what the TV and soundbar supports.   The HDMI port will work the best for both sound quality and features so that is the route I would take.
