A recurring dream of being back at school?

I've been having a recurring dream very regularly for the last few months about being back in high school, almost always one of these two, slightly varying each time:

1.  I'm in a history lesson, the teacher mentions about an important piece of homework, which I've forgotten about.  I sit at the back of the class panicking about what I am going to do.

2.  I'm waiting for the bus to go to school, but my bus pass is about 5 years out of date.  When I get on the bus, I have to hide my pass or make up some story so that the bus driver will let me on.

These are the two dreams, which I keep having, like I said, they vary slightly each time.  Does anyone have any interpretations on what they could mean?

That seems to be a common type of dream. I get those where I fall behind in math (which was always one of my worst subjects) and I have to drop out of school.

Nearly everyone who has ever been in high school (including former president

Gerald Ford), has anxiety dreams about it.   Welcome to the club!

They sound like basic anxiety dreams, that will probably come up any time you are having some anxiety to deal with.

    1. The dream means don’t forget what you believe and who you are or you will end up in toxic situations you do not know how to get out of and this will waste your future years.

    2. The dream means you need to acknowledge the future and not rely on the past, if you are dating or married, it might mean to reinvent your relationship by defining it according to your current personality and partner traits and not according to the past or the dream could be telling you you need to accept change by working harder at self improvement and not become too reliant on old successes, update your skills and possibly your education or change jobs when a more compatible opportunity arises.

You're not alone in having such dreams. I graduated from high school long ago, joined nursing school, completed it with high academic scores but couldn't continue the actual profession because of my health. And then, I took up social sciences and psychology, ending up doing only one year, again due to my health.

Ever since then,  I'm either in my high school or the nursing school I so loved. In my dream of course. And it's so recurrent it frustrates me. I think these dreams are the reflection of our subconscious mind that has long been hiding our unfulfilled passion, or something that used to bother us.

Maybe you'll be thinking about completing a degree you started some time ago.

I would dream more about school when i wasn't attending.

On 1: why are you panicking? You've already identified the feeling. What does it remind you of in regards to your lived experiences?

On 2: your actions in that situation seem to be born from panick, as with the first dream.  I would ask the same question as before: what event or events in your life caused the same feelings?  Present and past.

I can at least suggest that you realize (just consider) that you are no longer in that panick-inducing situation IF no present situation is causing the same feelings.

In my experience, how you feel and what it relates to in your current and past experiences is key to understanding your dreams.

It's your mind creating those experiences subconsciously based on your conscious and unconscious experiences.

I'll give you a personal example.  I dropped out of high school twice, got a G.E.D. after the second time and made a pretty good life for myself after that.

I had recurring nightmares of being in high school and panicking about just being there for over a decade after leaving high school for good.  Those dreams were all about how I felt: panicked.

Once I realized how I felt and that I was no longer in that situation, and wouldn't be there again, those dreams stopped.

That is the recurring theme in understanding my dreams.  I always ask myself what I feel in the dream, and think about past experiences that the feelings and thoughts remind me of.  That always leads me to a resolution.

Repetitious dreams indicate something in your life requires attention. Your dreams are directing you towards lessons once learnt but now forgotten and it's time to review things.

Your unconscious is showing signs that you are not entirely in control of either your life or a situation.

Recurring dreams as a matter of routine analysis implies your subconscious mind is still trying to resolve some conflicts that occurred during your school years. It seems like you have some regrets from around that time about missed opportunities. Not necessarily involving a history class or an expired bus pass.
