    My grandfather read to me (my parents made up stories that could weirder as they began to fall asleep).

    I don't remember my parents ever reading to us. My mom told me I taught myself to read by age 4. My reward for going to bed on time was to be able to read for an additional 15 minutes. Of course, as soon as I found a flashlight that time was greatly expanded.
