As a kid, were you ever told by one of your parents or by one of your teachers: "Carry on crying and I'll give you something to cry about!"?

I'm curious to know if anyone else ever got threatened with that same thing.

    oh, yes.  it was quite common when I was growing up

    No. And my parents never hit us- nor did they threaten to. Perhaps that's why we all grew up to be productive adults and good citizens.
