What is a good site to search for apartments for rent for my fiance and I?

Really, all we need is a one bedroom lol, it would be nice to have a second room for a potential roomie to help lower the rental cost, but we dont NEED it. With splitting rent, I could possibly afford spending about up to $450, but he is probably able to spend a little less. 

All the sites I come across have $1k+ rent... because they are luxurious. Granted, i know many appreciate that feature but I am trying to find something affordable. I would like to compare non-luxurious places (when I say "Luxury" I am simply talking about the unnecessary addition of pools and extra rooms, yes I would like a decent place to call home but I do not want a super rich place).

So, any advice/tips/fingers pointing in the right direction?

Update:

I live in the USA, in Georgia, and want to move closer to Covington, Conyers, Monroe, in that area.

    When I was young I had success with the "For Rent" sign in the window. Also try community centers and local market bulletin boards. There used to be ads in local free newspapers. I guess craiglist is an online version of that.

    Google '(community) Georgia apartment rentals' and start from there.

    There's always Craigslist.  You'll find lots of individual landlord/owners, but be aware of scams.  NEVER send money without visiting the apt IN PERSON first and make sure the person showing you the apt is the LL.

    What country? I suggest you Google for local letting agents.

    A few things to bear in mind though:

    There is no his and her share of the rent when it comes to landlords. they just want x amount each month. Your arrangements with your bf are between you and him.

    There will be no 'roomie'. 99% of leases forbid tenants from subletting, which is what you are proposing.

    In the UK, I'd suggest RightMove. No idea where you are though; the dollar is a fairly widespread unit and doesn't definitely mean you're in the US.
