I don't get why everyone is going crazy over a super league?

Because people think the game started in the 2000's and can't understand the following:

1) The Premier League exists because 5 clubs (LIV, EVE, MNU, ARS, TOT) wanted to breakaway from the EFL and did so forming their own league so they could get more TV revenue from this fledging group called Sky.

2) The Champions League has only existed since the late 1990's, because UEFA wanted to fend off competing entities AND wanted more money in TV rights as pay TV was becoming more common.

Reminder for everyone that history repeats itself.  So in another 20-25 years you'll have some other group trying something similar.

This nonsensical dirge about "the people's game" is pure crap.  It never was and never will be.  Chairmen in ENG/ITA/ESP don't want the German model, so they have what they have.  From a legal perspective, who's going to buy out FSG, The Glazers, Kroenke, and Bonesaw Petrostate FC (Man City)?  Do Supporters groups really have that amount of money and do they have legal standing to force a sale?  Hint- this gets decided in court.

All of the talking heads on Sky are upset because if this Super League comes to pass, it devalues their Premier League rights because they're losing the six biggest clubs (they don't have rights to Champions League games; that's through BT Sport) and likely impacts domestic cups as well.  These former players welcomed Sky's money and did very well.  They liked Sky being a disruptor.  But now, they don't want to be disrupted.

Prediction: similar to what happened in Australia during their Super League "war" in the 1990's.  1-2 years of two different competitions and more lawsuits than I can count, followed by a settlement, likely some joint venture clubs (where two clubs become one), and a slightly smaller Premier League.  Guessing that the players will sue UEFA on restraint of trade over being banned from international football and they certainly have a case.

You are not a true football fan if you are excited over the fake European Super League. The reason why the big 6 of the PL and the biggest clubs from Italy and Spain want it to go ahead is so the greedy owners of each club get their money. You are supporting greed if you are excited about the fake European Super League. The true European competition is the Champions League. I've slagged the Europa League off a lot on here but I even consider that to be a proper European competition unlike the fake European Super League.

It kills competition. One thing football and rugby to an extent has always had over the American sports and even sports like cricket and basketball is that you could theoretically create a team with your mates and on sporting merit alone, get to the elite level. Yes youd need to fulfill stadium criteria etc but the league's are open and with various promotions etc, you can make the top.

This kills that, it takes away the sporting merit from the game and makes it more like the American sports with closed off competition only open to the rich that can afford it. While it is inevitable that the biggest clubs will want more cash, it's a negotiation tool at the moment. 

Uefa and FIFA know without the top clubs or players, their competitions are worthless and at the moment the big clubs have all the cards.

If they are kicked out of the league's, whoop de Doo, the super League becomes a Saturday and Wednesday league with a few more teams

Uefa and FIFA will be dragged back to the negotiation table and a compromise will be reached.

Also for those saying this is new, it's not. The original idea behind the premier League was the top 6 go alone with no relegation, the football league caved and you got what you have now.

The biggest thing from this for me is it shows that the people running the game are not fit to run it. They lack the long term ability to control the game. I hope to god the big clubs use this as a way to get a major overhaul of FIFa and Uefa and actually get people who know the game running it

It's against the spirit of competition that underlines football, it's anti-competitive, they're turning the game into a TV show where the most popular character always has to come back and be involved. They're turning it from a fair sport into an entertainment medium where you follow a franchise.  

You don't say who you support, but a super league doesn't interest me one bit. I'm wondering what the reaction of players will be when FIFA ban them from playing for their country and the FA ban clubs from playing in domestic tournaments like the FA cup. Because that's what they are talking about doing.
