Is it worth trying tor each out to this guy? Was he manipulative?

I used to be friends with this guy who’s 13 years my senior. We recently had a falling out over something that seems petty but lead to us stop being friends. He has mental illness like depression & speculated on bipolar & schizophrenia. We talk about his issues often because it seems to help him. His issues consists of him always feeling worthless & his lack of friends over the years in a way that sounds like THEY had done something wrong to end the friendship.

I accidentally did something that he got mad at me for, which I tried to apologize after he lashed at me as I didn’t mean to offend. He talk about his issues again about him feeling worthless.

I decided to share one of my biggest issues from my childhood that I still suffer from but rarely ever share with ANYONE. That’s when the argument started. He felt it was okay to tell me that my issue weren’t a big deal & had no bearing to the argument at hand.

I called him out that it was unfair for him to think HIS issues were important enough that he can bring it up whenever he wanted but I can’t & that it was wrong for him to downplay my issue. He tried apologizing, but admitted he weren’t sorry.

I got mad & we argued. He tried apologizing again & will make it up to me even if it means catching COVID-19 & spreading it to his family. But he got upset & retracted that notion shortly after. Basically, he made it feel like as long as he said “sorry” & CRY, any & all his wrong doing is forgiven.

Update:

He also felt I was double standard for caring about what I want & he doesn’t matter. I reminded him that HE did the EXACT same thing regarding my issues & that he had no right to make such claims.

Then he suddenly had the nerve to decide that HE should end the friendship despite that this argument had gotten this far was because of him downplaying my issue and couldn’t care less about giving a genuine apology or even make an attempt to make it right.....
