Is she too young for him?

Hi...

I have a cousin who just turned 18. I recently found out that his new girlfriend is 14 and still in Middle School. I can't help but feel very uncomfortable with this situation. I think back to when I was a kid and I would have never even considered dating a 14-year-old when I was 18. Is there a double-standard for boys?

Yes, there is a double standard for boys and always has been and I think that will not change. Now to your question is she too young for him? In my opinion ( for what it is worth) she is too young for him. The stage of life that they are in right now age does make a difference. He is considered an adult (legally) and she is still considered a child. I'm not big on making a big deal over age (I'm 8 years younger than my boyfriend), but when you are as young as they are it is a big deal because they are at different stages in growing up and don't have the same ideas about relationships. My nephew was in a similar situation and I told him that she wasn't mature enough to handle the kind of serious relationship that he wanted and as it turned out I was right. They broke up after dating a couple of months.

I think she is morally and legally too young for him. Middle School kids aren't as experienced or as emotionally developed as an 18 year old.

Later in life, the 4 year age difference isn't a big deal, but in the teens, months can make quite a difference.

Personally, I would tell her parents and/or report the relationship to the authorities.

I would have to say yes she is too young. There are several reason that I believe that. The biggest one is the law, hello jail bait!! I know all the jazz about girls mature faster that boys but even though she's just as mature mentally, physically and emotionally she's probably not ready for the same type of relationship that an 18 year old guy is. That's just my opinion though. Good Luck!!!

Your cousins intentions are good, but he needs to think about the legality of the situations should the law find out about her age and his then he could get into trouble, he needs to find someone that is more closer to his age or the same age to avoid that barrier if all possible and too be sure there is a nice girl out there that is the same age as him and is willing to go out with him with out getting into trouble, talk to your cousin and see if he will just be friends with her and seek another girl.

Yes, she is too young to be dating an 18 year old.

She's too young. I really don't care about the legal issue with it; its just a little odd. At that age 4 years makes a big difference.

I go by legal standards and 14 is too young.
