Anyone out there went through mediation (marriage separation)?

What to expect, what it's all about, things like that? Can anyone give me some tips?

Thank you all in advance.

Mediation is a lower cost, lower stress approach than going through a court trial. BUT - mediation is also a process which is geared toward driving resolution. It is not intended to address or resolve any issues or concerns.

I went through mediation initially to establish child support and custody/visitation. What I didn't know was that negated my ability to pursue any concerns I had about neglectful and abusive behavior which occurred prior to mediation. I thought because I knew my ex would agree at the time to the custody and visitation schedule I wanted, and because the child support is a formula determined by the state, that it would be better than going to court. But the low stress low cost settlement on these matters was not worth making the violence and dangerous neglect which I and my son had gone through irrelevant in trying to resolve other issues in court.

If you don't have any issues or concerns and you both just want to dissolve the marriage, then mediation should be fine.

Hey canada_w... could you get to the point??

My sister in law just went through mediation. I guess it depends on the state and lawyer, but she had to pay 500.00 just to sit and basically argue with her spouse on child support. It took maybe about an hour and they had to try to come to some type of an agreement instead of going to court. Lets just say it didn't work and the divorce was long, drawn out, and expensive.

I wouldn't try to settle for anything just to get it over with. Make sure you get what you believe you are in titled to. If you have children and are seeking child support, let child support enforcement take care of that. More than likely you will get more money through them then trying to get a lawyer to take care of it for you. Remember...you can't go back for more child support for another three years, so make sure you are satisfied.

I think mediation is good to dissolve a marriage only...It would be plain and simple (in most cases), but mediation isn't set in stone. My sister in law's Husband changed his mind three days after mediation. What's the point in mediation if you change your mind? It is a waste of money, but in Missouri it is a requirement. Good Luck!!!

The mediator will help you find solutions and will ensure that the interest of the kids are protected. (if you have kids).

He will also help you for the belongings. If you can, the best thing to do is to make a list of your belongings with their actual value, your financial situation, etc...and prepare on writing a kind of agreement, it helps to conduct the mediation. The mediator will ensure that the agreement is fair for all party. Then, if you are both fine with the mediation, you can use it to have the divorce pronounced and it will save you a lot of money.

I hope it helps. Good luck.

One of the most common questions spouses ask when confronting a marriage crisis is this: How can I save my marriage if my partner doesn't want to help find a solution? How do I succeed I am trying to save my marriage on my own? Learn here https://tr.im/saveyourmarriage

It is a typical enough story: one partner leaves, the other stays. One remains 'in love', the other is uncertain. Whatever it is that has caused a couple to be apart, the one person who remains bears the prospect, fear, doubt, desire, hope of saving his or her marriage' alone.
