10 week old with gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)?
Our pediatrician prescribed AXID for our son yesterday. Does anyone have experiance with this? If so, how long does it take before it starts to work? When I asked the pediatrician she said it takes a few days before we should notice a differance. However, he has had 2 doses so far (every 12 hours) and he is (finnally) calm this morning.
I was just wondering if anyone else who has been on this medicine noticed a differance with in 24 hours, or did it take a few days for you?
Thanks in advance for your info :)

Both of children had the reflux and I noticed with thin the first twenty four hours a huge difference in the way that they were feeling and how they ate. It was wonderful that they were finally getting to keep the food down and sleeping and just being alot happier, I only had to keep them on it until they were six months old and by that time they were both back to normal and no more special formula or medicine and it was great, hope everything works out for you and good luck.

When I was an infant I was diagnosed with GERD as well. My younger cousin who is 5 now also was diagnosed with GERD as an infant. She was on AXID and it took a few days. It does with all GI medications - the drugs have to settle into your stomach enzymes, etc, to cause them to produce less acid. I'm almost 21 now and I have been on lots of upper GI drugs, usually within a week everything starts working and you'll experience significant relief. My cousin who is now 5 and was diagnosed at infancy currently doesn't complain or show any GERD symptoms, so AXID does work from what I have witnessed.
Good luck. I'm not a mother yet, but I know how stressful it was to watch my baby cousin go through it & know that there wasn't much I could do. My mom used to rub me down with baby oil when I would get into crying fits because of it, or she'd give me a warm bath to try and soothe me. Usually it helped relax me at least a little.

my son wasn't on that medication he was on zantac which did nothing and prevacid again...nothing!! After being on several different formulas like progestimil, enfamil a/r lipil and others along with adding rice and other cereals...the ONLY thing that helped him was Goodstart Soy....now he drinks regular milk NO problems! I am in NO WAY a doctor, I am just sharing my experience.....his reflux was horrible....he used to shoot it across the room out of his nose! I went against what my doctor said and did what I thought was right and what would help..keep in mind when I did this he was already 9 months old..he was projectile refluxing from birth. Now, at almost 4 years old its like it never happened :)

No formula I know is made for this. Be aware gentle formulas for gas are easier to break down than regular formula, so that may be unhelpful vs breastfeeding. My son was doing about the same thing, so I started watering down the formula, so he'd be full with less actual "food" in his system. My mom said give water, but because it's so thin, it comes out faster and chokes sometimes. My Dr. said the same thing about the pacifier, but he knew the difference and spit it out everythime. Eventually I told myself... my son's body knows itself and if he's hungry I let him eat. I was getting so worked up over him "overeating", but he seemed healthy, but just growing faster. His long too, so he is proporitionate anyways. 2 weeks is too young for cereal, her tummy can't digest solids. Try the watered down formula, then relax... she's just 2 weeks old... things will adjust within time. My son is almost 2 months old and while people say he looks like a 3 month old, he's happy & healthy.

My sister's pediatrician said it would take a while to take full effect, but that she might even see a difference in her daughter within 24 hours...she did.

my daughter was on many medications for this as well. i would have to agree with the mother about goodstart soy. that is the only thing that helped my daughter as well.
