OMG, sigh, ppl are giving stupid answers,

    dude,

a mouse will have more energy and a long tail, hamsters have a smaller tail than most. Also, if its white, check the eyes, small fact, it might be albino.

OOh, good one in my head,

a rat or mouse only goes during dark hours, hamsters are like cats, do when or what they want. Good Question! :D

puppy shops do no longer promote purebred iciness White Russian Dwarf or Campbells Russian Dwarfs. instead they promote what they call a 'Russian Dwarf hamster' this is a pass between both species - easily called a Hybrid dwarf hamster. This basically does no longer exist contained in the organic and organic global and they were no longer meant to be bred jointly meaning they commonly finally end up with all sorts of issues (many times liable to aggression) and decreased lifespans. there are various sturdy breeders who breed, promote and educate purebred iciness White Russian Dwarf and Campbells Russian dwarf hamsters. those are commonly a lot extra healthful and would were dealt with from 3 weeks previous a lot friendlier too. there is not any longer a lot distinction between both species this is seen, there is often genetic alterations yet there are some strategies to inform. The iciness White hamster could have thicker dorsal stripe and area arches. they actually have a much broader foreheads, shorter legs, smaller ears and shorter tails than Campbells. iciness Whites are many times extra laid decrease back than Campbells too.

If your uncle gave you a hamster that looks like mouse, it is probably a Chinese hamster which has a coat pattern (dominant spot) that looks white. Chinese hamsters have longer, more slender bodies than other hamsters and a slightly longer tail. If your pet has a very long tail, it's a mouse.

Also, Chinese hamsters are not actual dwarfs, even though they are called so in the pet trade. They are not related to Campbell's, Winter White or Robo dwarf hamsters.

    Here's some general info: http://www.napak.com/chinese_hamster.html

And wikipedia has a picture of dominant spot coat Chinese hamster: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinese_Hamster

Species! Mice have long tails, hamsters have short stubby ones.

If it's small like a mouse, you may have one of the varities of dwarf hamsters - chinese, campbells, whiter white, robovorski. Of these, the ones that have a known white variety would be Campbells or Winter Whites.
