Will baby get over pneumonia by BF?

Will baby get over pneumonia by breast feeding or is it better to also give him water and other fluids during his sickness? He is very congested. (6 months)

Breast milk is the best thing you can offer him right now; he needs those antibodies from his Mommy's milk.

I wouldn't give him other fluids because it will make his tummy full, and he'll take in less milk; you need to get as much breast milk in him as possible.

I am not sure if it applies to pneumonia or not, but they say that you should bf through sickness because it transfers antibodies to the baby. However, like I said, I don't know if that applies to pneumonia or not. . .

Breastfeeding isn't a cure-all...to treat pneumonia, you really need a doctor's advice...and maybe a nebulizer and mask, if the congestion is bad enough.

If he has pnemonia he should be on antibiotics to clear his lungs. Also at 6 months you could give him some water if you want or pedialite to keep him hydrated but the breastfeeding is fine just as long as he is doing it enough to stay hydrated.
