How do I get XP to recognize my secondary hard drive?

I formatted my main drive and reinstalled Windows XP, but I can't get the computer to recognize my secondary hard drive. It shows up in the BIOS and the Device Manager, but not in the Disk Management Tool. How do I get the computer to recognize the disk (preferably while keeping the data that's on it).

Update:

I haven't changed any settings (jumpers, cables, etc.). The drive used to work fine, and now it doesn't. My primary drive is SATA. The secondary drive is IDE

Make sure that the jumpers on the hard drive are set correctly. One is master and the rest are slaves. If the bios sees it, but it doesn't show in the OS, you probably have a conflict. I am speaking on IDE drives. If they are SATA drives, you might have a problem with that sata channel. Try switching to a different plug.

since you have 2 drives you have to make sure they r both not set to be your master drive, you can do that by having a look on the end of the drives where the cable hooks into and making sure the main drive you want as your primary drive has the little jumper on the MA(master) pins and the secondary drive has the little jumper on the SL(slave pins).that's will configure the drives right.now if they are SATA drives and not IDE drives and you have two SATA slots on your motherboard.it will configure it for you as long as you put the primary drive in the SATA slot labeled 0 or 1 on your motherboard.i have included a link for you.the picture is an excellent one for you to look at if you have IDE drives.notice the MA,SL,CBL and some drives have them written out like in the picture.also make sure the primary drive is on the end of the ribbon cable and the secondary drive is connected to the middle connector on the ribbon cable.the picture is of an IDE cd drive, but its the same principal for a IDE hard drive minus the audio word and such.if you need more help email me.
