Why do men say they care when they don't?

You don't love yourself. You have to care about yourself and think that you are wonderful enough to know you deserve better. That is the only way you will do the things it takes to make yourself happy. Don't let him treat you like dirt. Show him you won't stand for it. Do things that make you happy and feel good and you will start to have confidence around him

You mentioned that he treated you like dirt when you lived together about 5 years ago. You recently got back together and said he stated he was a different person but that he doesn't care about you. I would deduce from this that he hasn't changed at all. Not all men will tell you what you think you want to hear. There are honest and caring men out there who are not afraid to show it and who are secure enough to tell you when it's just not working out. However, if you find that you're in a relationship where clearly you can tell his words are not matching his actions I would suggest to both of you to move on, maybe you're just not as compatible as you thought or maybe he's just simply a jerk. Either way you get what you settle for and if this isn't your idea of a loving relationship that will grow and prosper then why waste each others time? I know it's hard to let go sometimes, but my dear, there is someone out there who will sweep you off your feet and treat you the way you deserve and more...and that...is worth the wait.
