Is it normal for a 9-10 month old to catch chills?

Our 10 month old has been catching occassional chills for about a month now. (what we've noticed) He visibly is getting a chill, like he vibrates briefly out of nowhere. It doesn't matter what the temp is in the house, he still gets them. seems like one or maybe more a day.

(No fever and it doesn't seem to bother him.)

Have you exerienced this?

Update:

Yes, I have been doing some extensive research online and am seeing mostly urination. A couple M.D.s have written that the chill occurs when the baby has urinated due to expulsion of considerable heat through urine. makes sense now. thanks for all responses.

    Spenny,

Is it possible that your baby is stretching or perhaps straining during a bowel movement? If not, I would most definitely mention to his pediatritian, and perhaps make an appointment for him to be seen.

Watch your baby closely and when he shivers, immediately check to see if his diaper is wet. He may be holding his urine because he has learned it will wet his diaper. When he is about to go is probably when he gets the chills.

If that doesn't answer your question, I think you need to have his Pediatrician check him out.

  • My son actually did this as well, and I asked the Doc about it. Nothing to worry about apparently as long as no other cold/sickness symptoms exist. If it still worries you it wouldn't hurt to put a long sleeve shirt or light jacket/sweater on him, just to make you feel better lol.

No, I've not experienced this but it may be something else. He may be experiencing a slight tremor or possibly even seizures. Definitely get him checked by your pediatrician as soon as you can. I hope it's nothing but better to be safe than sorry.

Could be a natural draft in the house. It can happen in adults or kids. i wouldn't worry too much especially if it doesn't bother him. It could be from going to the bathroom or it could be that something is ticklish.
