Why do some people have the orange banner?
How come some people have a banner saying 'top contibutor' and some people who also have answered loads of questions don't. Do they opt to have it or something?

It's that the person has answered (and got best answers) in one or two specific categories. Some people may answer the same amount of questions but not necessarily in any particular category and that is why they haven't got the TC spot. It gets awarded automatically and it can also be taken away automatically if you do not keep up to the quantity of answers required. I lost mine recently because I was away on holiday and then not on the internet much when I got back, but because I have had more time to be here recently I have the TC back again!
