I did one for a class on a Christian group on campus. Others in my class did: a church, a youth group, a fraternity, a sorority, a house with binge drinkers, a homeless shelter. There are so many choices!

First, think of how easy it is to get to the location. Also consider whether they will speak with you, or if they will not accept you being there. Then also consider whether the group you wish to do meets often enough/is available to you often enough for you to do proper research. Mine met once a week for 1 1/2 hours, and that was enough. I also conducted individual interviews to flesh out my research.

Be creative. You can select just about any group you want! Make sure your professor doesn't have any restrictions, though. Our restriction was to do an ethnography on a group that you feel uncomfortable around. So my Christian group definitely fit the bill for me. And always double-check that your group is acceptable to the professor before you begin your research!
