why is my hamster getting bald?

it seems its losing its hair... he's not fluffy anymore and he looks thin and there were times I saw fur stuck at parts of the cage.

is it the food but he's fed well?

is it because i bathe him occasionally?

age? but he's just a year old

I need FACTS on this problem

Update:

whatever the reason is, how can i let it grow back?

Hamster don't need to be bathed. They groom themselves. As for how it's fur would grow back, you could talk about this with a vet or someone who works at a pet store.

Hi! Good job of checking on Yahoo! Answers! It's a very informative site!

As for your hamster, you are not supposed to bathe them. Some rodents need to be bathed, but hamsters don't. It's not your fault. I know you just want the best for it. Just stop bathing it please.

Anyway, If I were you, I would take it to the vet. Immediately. It is most likely not extremely serious, but could be something that is only in a vets range. Make sure you request a rodent vet, because sometimes a regular vets hypothesis might be incorrect.

I wish you luck with your hamster and I hope this answer helped!

Hair loss isn't too uncommon, it can be seasonal or due to old age. If the skin turns red, gets flaky, or sores appear it should definitely be seen by a vet. If it has other symptoms or hasn't been seen by a vet in a while, I'd also recommend taking it to one. Some pet stores sell a water soluble vitamin supplement that might help stop it from falling out. Its fine to bath your hamster dont listen to the other people

One reason that could cause this is mites, i used to have a hamster and i brought a new hamster home and the new hamster had mites, and gave it to my other hamster and he starting losing patches of hair and then died =[ if you notice any other signs of mites you might wanna get him checked out by a nearby vet

You're bathing him too much. They're not even supposed to be bathed.

Don't bathe your hamster. It isn't good for him.
