How do I get Wireless N speed from my laptop's internal card?

I have an HP dv7-1451nr laptop that came with an internal wireless car with only 802.11 b/g capability. Seeking to upgrade to wireless N speed, I installed a Broadcom 4321 wireless card. According to the documentation for my laptop, this should be a compatible device. I installed the most current driver.

The card works, and I'm getting an excellent signal, but I'm only getting 5.5 mbps. My router's security is set to WPA2/AES, and all my other router settings seem to be correct. Any ideas?

Update:

I'm checking the speed by going to the Wireless Network Connection Status. My old b/g card consistently connects at about 54 mbps.

That speed is probably your internet speed and not your wireless speed. Even wireless G Speeds are significantly greater than that. How are you checking your speed?

No. each and each and every and each and each and every of the 802.11n playing cards are backward appropriate matched. There are literally not that many prompt N routers accessible. in truth, the basically N routers you will get in common words help as a lot as "draft-N", that is plenty slower than the theoretical velocity for a 802.11n connection. i do now no longer imagine of there is "authentic-N" router on the marketplace so that you'll purchase at the second one.
