ADHD medicine switch any suggestions or experiences ?
I was taking adderal for my adhd and now switched to cymbalta. I don't have much experience with these meds and noticed weight gain. I decided to stop taking it and now my symptoms came back. just would like to know what experiences ppl with adhd had in terms of effectiveness in weight loss and focus. Any suggestions thanks.
P.S:
I have adhd predominately inattentive type with ODD
any effectiveness for weightloss other than ritalin, amphetamines, or dex?

Personally? (And some people may disagree with me on this) But I strongly disagree with the use of medication at all for this. Back in my school, they were going to suspend me if i didn't talk to a therapist and she diagnosed me with this "ADHD" thing crap. Just because you have alot of energy doesn't mean there is something wrong with you. It means your active and your wanting to have fun! But taking drugs will seriously hinder your life later on, because these "Medications" your taking, they change the chemistry in your brain. As safe as things are now, as they say, I still don't agree with changing the chemicals around your brain. Granted, maybe it may be usefull in psychopaths or people in desperate need of mental and emotional help ( And I mean that sincerly, as in if their life is in danger, at risk of themselves or to others)
Oh! and just a little tid-bit of info. For every perscription your doc. or whoever writes? When it get's filled, they get a certain "Bonus", a percentage of money from the pharmacists. Pretty scandalousus eh? Anyways. I don't take anything, to me, it wasn't worth risking later on in my life. If I was to take any medication? It will be AFTER my brain is done growing. So instead of pill popping I got big into exercising and asked the teachers if I could take a lap around the school before class. (I still talked, bet eh! Nothing wrong with being social!) Now? I still get energetic but not nearly as much as before. I grew up I guess.
In my PERSONAL oppinion. I would just find another outlet for your energy, eat healthy instead of junk food becuase Junk can contribute to the problem. Pick up some sort of physical exercise and Go Hard! Set goals in your life to stay focused, like in school, focus on doing well on a test. Because the biggest thing I noticed? Lack of motivation plays a HUGE factor on having energy. you just don't care and would rather be doing somthing else.
Anyways. Again, maybe some would disagree with me but ADHD is just another thing for people to "Classify" you as, I know humans in general have lived with it for hundreds of years before and didnt take any pills for it. Anything to make a dollar I guess.
Im no doctor, but what I did seemed to work out just fine for me, and I can't make an official recomendation for you but...Don't be screwin around with the chemistry of your brain, as safe as it may seem, everything has a consequence. Just find another outlet for your energy! People have been doing it for years.

Cymbalta didn't do anything for me. I actually forgot more on that than on Adderall. Adderall gives you mega energy because it's a dexmethamphetamine. Extra energy=POSSIBLE weight loss because you feel like you have to move all the time. It doesn't mean you WILL lose weight. It also tends to cut back your appetite some, although it can have the opposite effect-my 4 year old son takes Adderall and eats everything in sight. He has also been on something called Focalin XR, but it didn't really help with his ADHD. He is on Adderall XR 20 mg and Intuniv for better help focusing. He seems to do okay with those meds. I'm on Adderall XR 20 mg because I have MDD (major depressive disorder) and I lose my energy levels really quickly. The Adderall has helped IMMENSELY, and I have noticed a little bit of appetite drop but no weight loss. But MUCH increased energy and focus. Which is good because I go to school online!

I heard Ritalin has had very positive effects on persons coping with ADHD.

I suggest speaking with a doctor and they may agree to prescribe you with some.

I find this website very helpful for my meds for bipolar. I think you may too. It also shows reviews from others who tried the drug that you are researching .
Hope this helps you out a bit.

I don't know if you've ever tried it, but omega 3 is very important for people with ADHD.
