Why won't my Honda Accord AC compressor start?

I recently replaced the AC compressor in my 2003 Honda Accord EX V6. . It worked great for a while, but now the compressor will not start when I turn the AC on. I know the clutch/compressor work becuase I hooked up a jumper wire from the battery, and the compressor engaged and the air got cool.

I checked the AC relay and it seems to be fine. The refrigerant pressure is right where it should be. What could be causing the compressor not to switch on?

    Pat is very close, but he missed one thing you said, and one thing you didn't say.

    You said the refrigerant pressure is right, you said it cooled, that precludes the system having pressure, but not enough to operate, "assuming" you jumped it on the other side of the switch, away from the compressor, but you didn't exactly say that.

    If the pressure is right, it's right. If it cooled when you jumped it, it's right.

    But:

    If you jumped it "after" the switch, it can be the switch is bad, OR the switch is not getting the signal from the thermostat, meaning bad controls or break in wire/ bad harness plug. It can be either one.

    Or:

    If you jumped it before the switch, there is no signal getting to the switch, verifying "bad controls or break in wire/ bad harness plug."

    The conclusion depends on where you jumped the voltage to.

    You need to use a volt-ohmmeter to eliminate the switch from the equation, that will answer the question.

    Hey, AC is expensive. You may be able to find a cheaper repair than $1100, but be ready - it still won't be cheap. You can get an idea about the price of parts by checking around at different auto parts stores. But the labor on the AC work is something that the average shade tree mechanic won't be able to do. By the way, by coil - I assume you are referring to the evaporator. You will probably be better off doing the compressor and clutch as a unit, but you'll want to replace the valve and evaporator as well as the belt. AutoZone probably has the most forgiving warranty policy. Or at least they did when I worked there back in 02. Probably your best bet is to find a shop with a good warranty, rather than a cheap price. Good Luck.

    It must be in the pressure switch if either the low or the high side

    switch fails the system won't come on. If you have a small leak

    the system will have pressure in it but it will not be sufficient to

    make it operate.
