Is belly fat inside or outside the abdomen muscles?
Just wondering if what we call "belly fat" is inside or outside the abdomen muscles. Could an obese person with a huge belly exercise the abdomen muscles intensively, and get weirdly huge, six pack abs? Just curious :) I'm naturally thin, but not of my own doing. I eat a crapload, and don't exercise at all. Just wondering about the anatomy of huge people :)

Fat is above the muscle. The muscles hold us together, the fat is there because we're Americans.

Actually it is both...but..it is the intra abdominal fat on a man that is linked with higher stroke and heart attacks....this the most dangerous area for a man or woman for that matter to have to much fat. A man would have to lose the fat via cardio exercise before ab muscles would become visible he wouldn't be able to get a huge 6 pack he can work the muscle but again would have to lose the fat for the definition to show..

We have two kinds of fat in our abdomen. Subcutaneous and Visceral.
Visceral is the inside fat which surrounds our organs.
Subcutaneous fat is the fat that people wobble around when they're bored. It's the fat right under the skin.
Subcutaneous fat is right below the skin, making it above the muscle, or outside of the muscle :)
Visceral is fat around your organs, so it's further inside of you, meaning it is behind your muscles.
