Why do people stick their tongues out before putting food in their mouth?
So many people seem to do this, especially when eating from a fork or spoon. They're not dumping the food on their tongues or anything, so I don't see why they would need to stick their tongues out, It's not sightly when there's half-chewed food still stuck on their tongues.
Someone said that the tongue helps stop food from dropping. How is that so when the tongue is UNDER the spoon/fork (and thus blocked by the spoon/fork) when you put the food in your mouth?

I have seen this behavior and am suitably disgusted by it.
I even knew a guy who did that when he drank beer! He would stick his tongue out and plug up the hole in the beer can with it, then retract his tongue into his mouth with the can still pressed up against it until it was close enough to release his tongue/hole plug and let the beer dribble down his gullet. Quite disgusting!
