Does the price of manga go up?

Question

Okay so I bought a yaoi manga the other day called Dog x Cat, not seeing that it was the second volume. I took it home, read it, didn't even notice that it was the second volume until the end where the mangaka was thanking me for buying the second volume. It cost me $20, but the first volume I can only find on amazon for $425-$900.... 
Does that in any way mean the volume I bought would ever cost that much?
Would people actually pay that much for a manga? 
Is this common in manga that isn't printed anymore?
Does manga ever get re-released, or have more copies printed?

Not from the actual publisher. You just chose an oddly published manga. Dog x Cat is published by 801 Media. It's a small independent company so their prices are naturally greater which usually range from $13-$16.

The first volume of Dog x Cat was published back in 2009. As such, 801 Media no longer prints it. Volume 2 was printed just last month. So supply is limited hence why Amazon has those spiked prices because those are resellers hoping to con someone into buying it.

Nobody will actually pay that much for a manga. It's not even a very famous one. People would have better luck finding a copy at a half price books.

The price hike is common for discontinued manga. Sometimes a bunch of people sell their copies at once and drop the price down. That's how after 2 years of waiting I got my original Clover manga for $20 instead of $500 because there was a random flood of people selling their copies.

Manga sometimes gets re-released. But that's rare. The companies really have no benefit for reprinting when they are getting newer manga each year.

no thats just amazon being an as ive looked up a couple ofANIMES ON THERE YOU KNOW 200$  on amazon then looked up somewhere else only 30 $
