Help in learning Hiragana & Katakana?

I'm taking up Japanese again (self teaching) and my friend wants me to help me them learn, too. I did a Intensive Japanese course last year for a semester but it was too hard for me as it was basically a years worth of information stuffed into 5-6 months and I'm a slow learner -____- but there was something my sensei's used to help us remember Hiragana & Katakana...

Uh my main question I guess is; does anyone know what this is called or where I can get it (a link would be great too!) it's basically all the symbols but they represent something? I don't know how to describe it...an example I remember is と and you basically remember a toe with a splinter in it or something like that.

Any one have any idea what I mean and know where I can get these online?

Hey there Japanese is one of many beautiful languages. Definitely don't use google translate to learn a language if there is anything I know it's learning new langauges. Most websites out there can only show you partial Japanese. You need to be able to acquire the Japanese writing system. I do have a list of free websites to learn Japanese on my site: http://www.languageloversunite.com/p/lea%E2%80%A6 My method of learning a new language is flashcards, grammar books, workbooks, audio recording (Pimsleur) and using a dictionary. Also get a Japanse language parter utilizing a free language exchange. You can teach them English and they teach you Japanese by Skype or chat.

    Hi,

These are called 'Goju-on'五十音(ごじゅうおん)which symbolizes 50 sounds, and there are Hiragana version and Katakana version.

The followings are the free-links which you are able to download Goju-on tables and practice sheets.

i love those XD but i still cant remember them, i dont know what they're called either but we were just told to use the hiragana/katakana charts and make our own ones, it might be easier to remember it that way
