Can I feed my hamster ANY kind of insect?
My hamster manual/handbook said that hamsters can eat ALL kinds of insects, like crickets, grasshoppers, beetles, and moths. So does that mean that I can feed them ANY kind of insect? How about ants, flies, mosquitoes, butterflies, cockroaches, wasps, bees, and praying mantises? Aren't these insects poisonous or dirty?

wild hamsters will eat crickets, small worms, maggots, and other soft invertebrates. However, domestic hamster may dislike bugs. You wouldn't want a half-eaten worm in the cage! It would rot and the smell would spread quickly! Feed domestic hamsters hamster food and the wild ones will eat their worms!

I feed my hamster flies. every time I see a fly flying around my abode, I seize it and feed it to my hamster. I feed my hamster steak, burgers, eggs, peanuts etc. i've got had my hamster when you consider that January of 2013. From previous adventure i've got discovered that feeding hamsters the "pronounced" meals gave them a shorter lifespan than an prolonged one. Hamsters interior the previous that I in undemanding terms fed end result and greens as properly as grains they lasted under a 365 days, while my hamster has been around for better than one. Hamsters are not herbivores they're omnivores, they consume the two meat and greens absolutely everyone that tells you otherwise is an fool.

Ew, no. Not cockroaches, flies, bees, wasps, mosquitos, or butterflies!
Cockroaches/Flies/Mosquitos can carry germs and diseases that can make your hamster sick.
Bees/Wasps can make your hamster die as they carry venom in their stingers.
Butterflies are hard for a a hamster to eat. Basically all that's edible is the body, not the wings. And anyways they're really pretty! Why feed it to your pet?
I suggest you study more on this using Google or Yahoo.
Source(s): Please only feed it a limited amount of insects. Stick to the normal hamster food as a regular diet. - ?Lv 79 years ago
if you want to give your hamster insects, buy them from a place that sells them as reptile feed.
wild insects may be harbouring parasites, or have pesticide on them.
it's not safe to just catch wild bugs for a pet to eat.
