What's the name of this car part?

I drive a 2003 Ford Taurus SES.

A little while back I hit a raccoon and it put a hole in what a family friend called a "power steering cooler."

I've had a lot of issues trying to find this part to buy, and mechanics that I've called never heard of it.

Is there another name for this mystery part?

It's basically a silver, metal pipe in the very, very front of the car. I believe it's connected to a hose, which doesn't appear smooth. I'm sorry this is so unknowledgeable and vague sounding. My steering isn't as smooth, as the hose it bent. My friend did repair temporarily repair the hole, though.

Any ideas at all? I'll add more details if you need me to.

Thank you so much. :)

Update:

It did leak the steering fluid, and the part is horizontal and runs to each side of the car.

my 2000 Ranger has a Power steering fluid cooler right in front of the rack and pinion, so they do exist. I have seen them more in trucks than I have in cars, though, but they are out there.

My advice- Find a different mechanic, lol

Sounds like your transmission cooler to me.
