Why does my HP Laptop lose internet connection and I cannot get it back without restarting?

the tab in lower right area of the screen says "local only" so I am not able to e-mail,etc. I used to disconnect and reconnect and that would take care of things but anymore I have to totally reboot my computer.

What is going on?

    right click and choose REPAIR

the most likely reason is to do with POWER SAVING.

if you set your power scheme to ALWAYS ON and

prevent the system from turning OFF the wireless to save power

    then you should be ok.

the nature of the fault is most likely this:

the router gives your pc an IP, your pc has a MAC address

your pc turns off its signal, later it turns it back on

it trys to use the router, but the router issues out a new IP

your pc still uses its original IP and the confusion is complete.

the real concrete answer is configure your router menu

to issue ONE FIXED IP for your wireless pc based on its MAC address

thus even if you turn off the pc, or just its wireless the ROUTER

will only ever issue out the ONE IP value to it.
