Connecting my laptop to my tv (HDMI)?

Everywhere I look seems to be only instructions, when I need troubleshooting help.

Basically, everyone seems to think it'll work as soon as I hook up the cord. I plugged it into HDMI port 1 and changed my input to that as well. I've seem to try all external display connections and nothing seems to work for me.

I only get the 'no single' for whatever I do. I've also tried HDMI 2 as well.

Any help would be appreciated.

(I have a Sony Vaio that's a 2 years old and a Sanyo LCD that I just purchased last night.)

Update:

I believe I had restarted before from a suggestion, but did it anyway. Still not working. It recognizes I have an HDMI cord plugged it. It even recognizes my TV, but it still doesn't want to show up.

Update 2:

Again, these were instructions and not solutions. But thanks, I guess.

I suggest that you browse to the model number of your computer at:

    http://esupport.sony.com/US/p/select-system.pl?mod...

Then navigate to start>my computer Right click on my computer and click manage then device manager. Check for any devices which display a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark in the middle and make note of those devices. Download and install any missing drivers from the above link.

Then read the information at the following link:

    Hope this helps.

What Instructions? Try these as they are for your Sony

    1. Turn off both the Sony Vaio laptop and the HDTV.

    2. Connect one end of the HDMI cable to the HDMI output port on the Sony Vaio laptop

    3. Connect the other end of the HDMI cable to the HDMI input port on the HDTV.

    4. Turn on both the laptop and the TV. Right-click on a blank space on the desktop and select "Screen Resolution" from the menu that pops up.

    5. Click the screen labeled "2" near the top of the window. This represents your TV. Set the screen resolution for your TV by clicking the drop-down menu next to "Resolution." Check your TV owner's manual to find the resolution, if you are unsure. Might be 1080P or less...

    6. Click the drop-down menu next to "Multiple Displays" to select whether you want the display duplicated, extended, or to appear only on either the TV or laptop screen.

    7. Push the "Input" button on your TV remote and navigate to one of the HDMI inputs to view the computer display.

On the laptop, you want the laptop screen off and the output to the TV on.

This will allow your GPU to go to full HD resolution. (higher than your laptop screen can support)

To toggle through video configurations, hold the Fn and tap the F* key

Video toggle key will have an old CRT Symbol on it. A rounded rectangle with rounded corners.

Sometimes you have to reboot the computer after the cable is connected to both the computer and the TV. Then the computer will "see" the second monitor.
