My laptop shuts off whenever I'm playing a game?

This has happened only recently, and it only occurs when I'm playing a game (for example, Skyrim). I can be playing for 5 minutes or so and the laptop just cuts off, as if it has no power, and it cannot be turned on immediately after shutting off either. I have to wait around 2-3 minutes.

Is something wrong with the fan and it has to cut itself off to prevent damage? Or is this something else?

Its a heat problem. maybe try turning the brightness down, or the volume down, or keep it plugged in to a charger.

Your graphics card is unable to handle the game. So, it heats up and after few minutes shuts down to prevent overheating and melting down internal components

Try running the game at lowest possible settings

Sounds like it's overheating. make sure that your fan inside your laptop is working, listen for it. If not you'll need to get in there and probably clean it out and see why it's not working, Or you can try buying a cooling pad that you can sit your laptop on.

Yup, sounds like a cooling issue. Either your fan or your heat sink is defective, can't say which without looking at the computer.
