Spiritual influence or divine influence has greater impact on our social behavior.

  • There have been many schools of thought in Psychology and one of them was "Functionalism" where the famous psychologist William James wanted to explore how organisms adapted to environment. However, in early 20th century new schools of thoughts emerged and one of them was "Behaviorism" and its founder was John B. Watson.

Basically what Watson proposed was that nearly all behaviors are a result of conditioning and environment shapes behavior by reinforcing certain habits. For example: giving children cookies to stop them from whining reinforces the habit of whining. The way we respond to a stimuli is very much learned and conditioned in us, and this is the smallest unit of behavior from which more complicated behaviors can be created. So, in my opinion the answer should be a) Adaptive mechanisms.

The way we adapt to environments and situations is more or less a result of LEARNING to live like that. Environment is a strong factor in shaping our behavior. Every individual is born to eventually fill certain roles in a society. Say, a girl is born to fill a role of a daughter, a sister, a wife, a mother and so on. Such roles require certain expectations to be fulfilled. Don't we eventually behave differently when performing these different roles as per the requirement a particular role demands? Where does this come from? It is all a result of repeated conditioning and learning over time. Adaptation, as I feel, is a learning in itself. You know its the onset of winter in your city, so you tend to eat more of warm food and wear woolens. Eventually, yes, you have adapted to the conditions posed by nature (i.e. winters in this case), but in essence, you have learned that since its a winter season, thus you require warm clothes & warm food. Environment, in many other ways, induces learned behaviors amongst individuals.

Proponent of Behaviorism John B. Watson had said that all types of complex behaviors that emerged from special training & education were interlinked fabric of conditioned responses. So, as per his theory, I believe that aspects of social behavior are influenced by adaptive mechanisms because ultimately, they are all learned.

is this for biology? seems like nature and nurture would pllay a big role.
