Can you cite a textbook if necessary in university papers?

In my lab report, there are some small facts that I obviously have to cite from somewhere, but they were just the basic foundation facts of our unit. Is it ok if I cite my textbook (from now) for these small facts? And is it ok if I cite one of my high school textbooks for a couple of other minor points? Or does it have to be a proper article or journal or book?

Yes you can and I think this could enhance your knowledge or sometime elaborate the point of view in such way that clear up evey ambiguity of your mind. In order to clear up each and every thing, I would suggest you to go for relevant books or sites like http://textbooks.org/ where you can get every type of supported material for your papers.
